Good Morning!
I’m a Minnesota author. My Finnish grandparents came to America in the early 1900s and settled in the wilderness of northern Minnesota. My aunt Miriam Kaurala Dloniak and I wrote a book about their experience of coming to America. The book, Miriam Daughter of Finnish Immigrants, reflects the daily life experiences of my grandparents as they raise seven children during the Great Depression. The story is told from Miriam’s point of view. It begins when she is four-years-old and ends when she leaves the farm to attend the University of Minnesota. It’s a story of strength and a commitment to succeeding in America and reflects the family’s sisu. The book has received wonderful responses from readers. I presented it at an international immigration seminar in Turku, Finland in 2009. I would be happy to send you a review copy. I look forward to hearing from you. Diane Dettmann
Hello! On August 5th, ECM will release “The Magical Forest” – and new album from Sinikka Langeland.
I would like to send you advance music so you can consider a review – I can do that digitally if you send me the correct email address or, send me a snail mail address if you would like a physical advance. Here is a bit of info about the album:
The colors of The Magical Forest glow in this remarkable recording which brings together Sinikka Langeland’s Norwegian-Finnish-Swedish Starflowers quintet with the singers of the Trio Mediӕval. It’s an inspired concept: the Trio Mediӕval, with their affinity for folk music and their unique vocal blend, adapt themselves ideally to Sinikka’s sound-world, which is at once archaic, timeless and contemporary. The quintet members, all bandleaders in their own right, are amongst the most characterful players in Scandinavia today, and Sinikka sets them free to improvise around her cycle of songs, built upon myths and legends of the world tree.
Thanks!

A beloved Finnish song Kallavesj was written in exile, in Fitscburg, Massachusettes, just before Finland became independent. Later the writer Aaro Jalkanen worked as a diplomat representing Finland among others in USA The documentary tells about his life, other four stories tell about tragical, cultural and happy things that have happened around the lake. The film lasts 51 min 55 sec. It has English subtitles. Picture showing Denali is not accurate. If you actually saw Denali, it would tower insanely over the peaks your image shows.
